Kamikaze March towards the Title

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Kamikaze FC vs Andernese FC

8/12/2013
11am Kickoff
Centaurs Turf City

In the previous week, the Gaffer had laid down the 100 goal target for the team, but in all reality this game was still an important one as they were playing against their closest title contenders and a win for Andernese could seriously complicate the title race. However, the ease with which Kamikaze got the job done made a mockery of the title race as they ran out comfortable 6-1 winners despite having an under-strength squad.

Hevy opened the scoring with yet another typically taken goal, leaving the defenders for dead as he turned and swivelled past them before unleashing a deadly shot. However, a horrendous backpass led to the Keeper Thombu needing to make a last-ditch tackle. However, the referee ruled it a foul and Andernese equalised from the resulting penalty. A few eyebrows were raised at the manner at which KKZ found themselves pegged back.Victor, however, who had earlier put in a shift as keeper while waiting for Aravin Thombu to arrive, decided to take matters in his own hands, as he put in arguably his best performance of the season. He kept applying pressure on the opponent centrebacks with intelligent runs and was first to latch on to a lofted ball from Faizal. He then nudged away the defender before laying off to Mohaan who made no mistake of the chance. 2-1 was how it headed into the half.

Kamikaze looked to end the contest early on in the second half and they did just that, as Victor flicked a header onto the path of Dinesh Manjan who finished exquisitely to give KKZ a clear lead. The duo of Faizal and Safar then took over to end the contest as they combined in an amazing play which saw Faizal playing the ball onto Safar who made no mistake in scoring. Spaceship then took over the duties, as he assisted Safar's second, by playing the ball through the middle that set up Safar for a 1-on-1. Hevy then grabbed his second consecutive brace with a neat finish that gave the keeper no chance.

The champagnes have been put into the ice-box and the fireworks on standby to celebrate what would be a resounding title win. But the team is not getting carried away as they are firmly focused on achieving the target set by their gaffer. As it stands, the team needs to score 32 goals in 5 games at an average of slightly over 7 a game. The task is made easier with the knowledge that their remaining games are all against teams with the worst defence in the league. But will the KKZ boys step up to the challenge? Watch this space!!!

Kamikaze Hunt the Lions down

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Kamikaze FC vs ANZA Lions

1/12/2013
3pm Kickoff
WoodlandsSecondary

After a morale-boosting win the previous week over title-contenders Keppel Bay, Kamikaze were all geared up to meet ANZA Lions in what was expected to be an easy win. In reality, although Kamikaze did manage to make things a little difficult for themselves, it was a comprehensive victory that saw them run out 7-2 winners.

It was an exciting afternoon as the Kamikaze attack looked to feast upon their opponents' average defence. Victor opened the goal with a good run and healthy dose of luck after his shot was deflected into goal. Hevy scored the second after excellent work from Safar, before Victor grabbed his brace and Vinod rounded up the half to lead the team into the break up 4-0.

The scoreline and the memories of the previous 12-0 defeat of the same opponents led complacency to creep into the team's mindset as they let their opponents into the game. Nonetheless, there was still time for Hevy to grab his second. Safar then capped a lacklustre performance with a goal, showing just how phenomenal he has been this season. Anand then put the icing on the performance with a textbook freekick that gave the keeper no chance.

The manager was all smiles at the post-match conference,

"Well it looks inevitable isn't it? We're steamrolling to the title, and now I have to start planning for a title-party that is worthy of this comprehensive season. I'm absolutely proud of them, and now the only challenge I can lay down for the team is for them to go and try to score 100 goals this season. It will be a good challenge for the team and I'm sure they will be motivated to try and achieve that magical number with good free-flowing football"

Will the team reach that target? Watch this space!

Kamikaze Juniors show Famed Fighting Spirit

Maverick FC vs Kamikaze Juniors
AI Sports Sat League Season 2
Rd 1 League Match @ Eastview Secondary
23/11/2013
3pm Kickoff

In what looked to be a cruel game, Kamikaze dominated possession throughout the game only to find themselves 2 down due to a combination of switching off while defending and an inability to finish off their chances.

The boys created numerous chances, but could not find a way past the opponents keeper. It was not until the 83rd minute, when Saai drove up the opponents' third and found Vinnie whose cross found Visnu V2. V2 fluffed his first time volley, but was first to the return ball and made no mistake with his second chance to give KKZ a fighting chance.

That chance arrived, when Hari who had a tireless shift the whole afternoon found himself tackled inside the box. Captain Hasiim, made no mistake from the spot to ensure that the KKZ boys begin their season undefeated.

The Gaffer was pleased with the comeback but rued the missed chances.

"We cannot keep doing this to ourselves. We played such good, high-level football only to concede goals from silly school boy errors. We have to buck up and take our chances early. The aim now is to turn this team into a high-scoring outfit and I believe that my forwards will step up to the challenge"

5-Star Kamikaze Strengthens Title Case

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Keppel Bay FC vs Kamikaze FC

24/11/2013
3pm Kickoff
Hua Yi Secondary

Kamikaze ended any doubts about their title-hopes with an emphatic 5-0 victory over fellow title hopefuls Keppel Bay. The pre-match hype surrounded on Keppel Bay looking to burst the title race open with a victory that will seriously dent KKZ's chances of winning their maiden ESPZEN title, and the match started in an exciting fashion as crunching tackles flew all around the park.

However, Kamikaze drew first blood as a surging Pratheep run saw him pick out Hevy with a neat pass, only to see Hevy fouled inside the box. Hevy, reinstated to the starting line-up after a two-week break, took the resulting penalty and made no mistake as he drilled the ball into the back of the net. The goal swung the momentum into the KKZ camp, however, good saves from the keeper kept Keppel in the game. Victor who was then substituted in doubled the lead, after he finished a good passing move involving Shivaanan and Safar, with a neat left-foot shot inside the box. 2-0 at half-time.

Kamikaze knew that they needed one more goal to seal off the game, but they did not expect the intensity of Keppel's attacks, as repeated long punts kept putting the defence under pressure. Save for some last-ditch tackling and the crossbar, the team could have been pegged back. However, a neat passing movement involving Fazail and Safar ended the game, as Kamikaze won their second penalty of the match after a professional foul on Safar inside the box. Gerard stepped up to slam home the goal in an ice-cool manner and the game was all but over.

But there was still time for the Fazail-Safar show, as Safar latched on to a through ball from Fazail and made no mistake inside the box. Fazail, then deservedly got a goal for his efforts after an excellent cut-back from Yeli.

The Gaffer was visibly pleased at the post-match interview,

"It was a good answer to the critics. There were some hopeful eyes, praying we'd lose some points, but I think the lads settled that pretty well. A 5-0 win against a title-contender is a satisfying result and now, we are going to focus on taking one game at a time. Next week will be tough one against a very physical team, but we know we have what it takes to get a result. I really think this season has been a defining one for several of my players, including Shivaanan, who I thought had an excellent shift. Fazail once again showed what he was capable of when he is at his fittest. So, I'm very pleased with the character shown by my team."

Squad: Pratip GK, Dinesh Neshsta (c), Prem, Kishen, Barathi, Gerard, Shivaanan, Fazail, Vicky Hevy, Safar, Pratheep Muse, Victor, Dinzo, Aravin Yeli

Kamikaze's Run Finally Comes to An End

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Kamikaze FC vs Paix FC

17/11/2013
1pm Kickoff
Bedok North Secondary

Kamikaze suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Paix FC which finally brought their unbeaten run to an end. The team suffered a shock squad crisis, that once again raised questions on how well the squad is being managed. But the fact that 3 players would cancel on the team just hours before kickoff can not be in any way blamed upon the management. A mad scramble during the early morning hours of the match Sunday saw a makeshift 14-man squad being assembled for this important league clash.

However, in all honesty, there was still enough depth in the squad to see out the match comfortably. Yet, of all days, this had to be the day where several players would have an off day making several uncharacteristic mistakes. A dull goalless first-half let to a cagey second half, which came to life off an handball conceded by Gerard in the defensive area leading to a penalty conceded. Paix made no mistake. However, KKZ refused to give up and continued pouring more men forward, only to be beaten via a counter attack and soon they were 2-0 down.

When Safar struck with a well-taken individual goal 5 minutes from time, it looked like a comeback was on the cards, but more mistakes in the final-third due to a lack of composure saw the team waste good chances as they stumbled to their first defeat.

Kamikaze looked to engage in introspection as a team on the failures that led to this defeat. While the team is not looking to panic, certain processes must be put in place to ensure that squad crises are never heard of again. While the title race has been blown open, Kamikaze is still in pole position to win their first ever ESPZEN title in their debut season.

Can the players rise up from this blip? Can they bounce back against Keppel Bay who will be baying for their blood? Watch this space.

Kamikaze Juniors Win Again

Kamikaze Youths vs Mixed Reds

9/11/2013
3pm Kickoff

Match Report By Pratip Kumar

Kamikaze Jrs enjoyed a comprehensive victory on Saturday. The team started with a positive mindset and wanted to win the match in style, which they did.

The first half was all Kamikaze as they kept asking questions of the opponents' defence. However, with the opponents running tirelessly and their keeper being in scintillating form, the game was kept 0-0 at half-time.

It looked like it needed something magical to break the deadlock, and when the goal came, it did come in some incredible fashion. Vishnu proved his capability by scoring an Ibrahimovic-style half-volley from 30-yards out which looped over the helpless keeper, who till that point was having a blinder of a game. Once the goal went in, the floodgates opened.

Second goal came via a setpiece with Vinnie turning provider. From a outswinging corner, Vinnie headed the ball back into the 6-yard box for Hasiim to head it in to the back of the net. Just when it was starting to look like a comfortable match, a defensive mix-up saw the opponents pulling one back with the striker through on an open goal.

The Juniors however showed good composure and continued their good passing movements which paid dividends as they went on to score one more. After an excellent team play, Victor squared the ball back for Hasiim who calmly sidefooted it into the goal.

The opponents, however, refused to give up and another mix up, this time between Saai and the Keeper Pratip, saw the striker easily gaining possession and looping the ball into an empty net.

Just when it looked like a melt-down was on the cards, Jo, who had an awesome shift, combined with another new player Visnu V2, who had an absolutely outstanding afternoon. Their 1-2 passing movement saw Jo being put through with an exquisite ball by Visnu V2, and he made no mistake with a clinical finish.

The final score ended 4-2 and there were many positives to be taken by the team. Visnu V2 showed great potential, while Joseph, Arjun and Hasiim showed their class in midfield. With Vinnie, Prabhu and Vishnu showing good predatory instincts, the team is looking to be in fine form. However, they have to sort out their occasional defensive slip-ups to look as genuine title contenders.

In the Press Conference, the Team Managers Victor and Neshsta announced, that the team would be joining a new league soon, details of which would be revealed in the coming days.

Kamikaze Notch 7th Win of Campaign

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Chap Pah Lang vs Kamikaze FC

10/11/2013
1pm Kickoff
Yusof Ishak Secondary

Kamikaze headed down on to Yusof Ishak pitch rejuvenated after a 1-week Deepavali break. But it took a while before the fireworks went off. However, once they got going, the sparkles lit brightly as KKZ racked up another dominant scoreline.

Dinesh Manjan opened the scoring after yet another assist from Safar. Captain Suresh USPO soon doubled the lead by heading in a corner which resembled a training-ground routine and celebrated ecstatically. Safar then wasted no time in getting in on the act after being played in by Pratheep. Hara decided to join in the party by scoring a 30-yard screamer which gave the keeper absolutely no chance, and the rout for the half was completed by Mohaan who once again underlined his importance to the team. 6-0 at half-time.

The second-half was strangely a dour affair, as KKZ seemed to lack the penetration shown in the first half. The team looked content to pass the ball around, and Chap Pah Lang took the invitation by pulling back one goal via a penalty. However, that goal would prove to be no more than a consolation as Safar restored the 6-goal lead, latching on to a defence-splitting pass from Spaceship and making no mistake inside the 6-yard box. Victor got one for his toils too, after playing a neat one-two pass with Shivaanan. The scoreline was completed by the Man-of-the-Match Safar, who once again showed why he is such a highly-sought after player as ran into the box beating the offside trap and backheeled the ball past the hapless keeper.

In all honesty, it was a satisfying game for Kamikaze as they experimented with multiple formations throughout the course of the game and came out with a good win. This bodes well for the confidence of the team and they are now ready to accept Team Mentor Victor's challenge of ending the season unbeaten.

In his post-match conference, Victor had this to say,

"We will, in all probability, never get another chance like this to end a season unbeaten. But it will not be easy. It requires us to overcome our greatest opponent: Ourselves, and Our complacency. The attitude that turning up for a game guarantees victory has to be thrown out of the window. We should remember to focus and give our total commitment for the full duration of the game."

Will Kamikaze end the season unbeaten? What will the team's reply to this challenge be? Watch this space...

Match Report By Pratip Kumar

With the team experimenting a new formation, Kamikaze overwhelmed their opponents with a resounding 5-0 victory. But once again it was a tale of two halves as all 5 goals came in the first period of play.

Boasting a squad of 16 players, the team had enough depth and wanted to prove a point after some lacklustre displays in the previous weeks.

From the start of the match, the Youths, displayed slick passing in all areas of the pitch. Having made a conscious decision to cut out the long balls, there was good passing and off the ball movement. With Shivaanan and Hasiim dominating the the midfield, the first goal came after a run of good passing. Nick sprinted down the left flank before getting the better of two defenders and squared the ball back to the returning Prabhu who finished it with calm and ease. Not long later, Hasiim took a rocket of a shot which hit the inside of the crossbar on the way to the net. The third goal also followed in a similar fashion of the first one with slick passing. Jo was the provider this time as he played a through-ball with which Vishnu made no mistake.

Vinnie, scored arguably the goal of the match as he capped off a fine Kamikaze move that saw 11 uninterrupted passes made before Vinnie scored with a neat finish. Vinnie then returned the favour for Haji, with a cheeky backheel to Haji who caught the keeper offguard and swung in a lobbed shot.

Despite the excitement of the first half, the second half was a dour affair. Though the team did well to ensure that no goals were conceded, there wasn't much attacking penetration. However, after the dismal result in the previous game, the team would gladly take the 5-0 result.

In his post-match conference, the gaffer laid down the gauntlet to his charges,

"Is it possible to continue this run for the next 4 matches? Can we ensure that we continue the good things of this match and eliminate the bad ones? Can we make the right decisions for every match?"

Kamikaze Notches Up Another Resounding Win

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

United Elite FC vs Kamikaze FC

27/10/2013
1pm Kickoff
Meridian JC

The other teams in this league are looking over their shoulders with a nervy discomfort. For the second week running, Kamikaze ran out 12-0 winners. To their credit, United Elite, the third placed team, were a decent side, who were capable of playing good football, but they were completely outplayed by this Kamikaze outfit which has finally looked like it has gelled nicely as a war-machine.

The ball was started rolling by Safar who made no mistake after latching onto a through-ball following a quick counterattack. He then turned provider as he cut-back after beating 2 defenders, to provide the easiest of tap-ins for Victor. Victor then turned provider himself, as he regained composure after failing to beat the keeper, to lay up the ball for Barathi to smash home. The first-half was completed by Yeli who again benefited from a Safar cut-back.

The second half saw United Elite looking to contain the damage and they managed to hold the team at bay for about 15 minutes, in which they might have even grabbed a goal, if not for the excellent teamwork between the keeper Aravin and the defence. However, when Pratheep shimmied past 2 defenders to strike home a sensational goal into the left-corner, the floodgates were inevitably broken. Hevy, soon got onto the scoresheet as did Kishen, Mohaan and Shivaanan. Barathi, Safar and Victor got their braces as well, to see Kamikaze home to a comprehensive 12-0 victory, their second on the trot.

At the post-match interview, Team Captain Suresh made the following observations,

"I think we have finally settled into a style. The quick passes and intelligent movement is what is getting us the goals. I think it is very easy to see, that when we run with the ball, we don't get as much goals, as we do when we run off it and make quick passes. So right now, the focus is most important. It is still very early in the season and anything can happen. Leagues are not won by goals first. The goals are important, but the points are even more important. So I challenge my team to go forth and win the next 4 games, and then we can assess where we stand, in terms of the title. But I assure you, there is no place for Complacency in our team. Anyone who thinks, that we are entitled to win just by turning up, better beware of the backlash he will face. We have a job to do, and we will do it."

On that note, Kamikaze enters a 1-week break to celebrate Deepavali. On behalf, of the Team and its Faithful, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy and Joyous Festival of Lights.

ANZA Lions vs Kamikaze FC

20/10/2013
3pm Kickoff
Serangoon Gardens Secondary

It was just a matter of time before the lads from Kamikaze broke open their shackles and let loose. Unfortunately for ANZA Lions, the KKZ boys had chosen this day to truly announce their arrival as league leaders. A quiet first-half that only saw KKZ up 1-0 thanks to a solitary Safar strike, belied the carnage that was to arrive in the second period as Kamikaze ran riot to finish the match 12-0 to the good.

Goals came from all over the pitch, as 6 different goalscorers got their names on the scoresheet, but Siva was the biggest winner as he single-handedly helped put all criticisms about the team's striking department by banging in 4 goals, with a bicycle kick included for good measure. Manjan opened his season's account with a brace, as did Doctor and Dinzo who scored a goal apiece. Not wanting to miss out on the fun, Yeli grabbed a brace while Safar scored another to keep pace with Yeli.

In all, it was a satisfying game for the KKZ faithful as they kept their first clean-sheet in 3 games, whilst significantly boosting the goal difference tally.

Is this the start of a title-winning run from Kamikaze??? Watch this space.

Kamikaze Extend their 100% Record

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Deportivo Lions vs Kamikaze FC

13/10/2013
1pm Kickoff
Temasek Secondary

Kamikaze looked to play the part of a team in serious form and they played the role to a pomp as they edged out their opponents Deportivo Lions 5-1 to cement their place at the top. It looked like it was going to be a tough game as KKZ started slowly with the Lions defending stoutly. However, when Shivaanan broke the deadlock with a well-taken follow-up shot after Safar had drilled the ball into the box, it was cue for the floodgates to open. Siva doubled the score after some excellent work from Pratheep who crossed in a ball, which Siva bravely pounced onto and turned into goal with a flick off his head.

The Lions tried to put up a fight when they clawed one back, but their lights were knocked out when Yeli took over and scored two goals within the space of 10 minutes to underline his class as the player to watch to lead the team into half-time 4-1 up.

The second half saw a much slower passage of play as KKZ were contend to stroke the ball around and get a feel of their passing routines while any threatening goal-bound attack was calmly thwarted by the defence and their new goalkeeper loan-signing Aravin from DBoyz. However, the half was brought alive, when a quick counter-attack saw Yeli released down the left flank. He found himself acres of space and just enough time to put in an exquisite cross, but even that was overshadowed by what followed next, as Gerard coolly awaited the oncoming of the ball, before unleashing a sweetly-timed volley that would rank up there as one of the finest goals scored in amateur football. 5-1 was how it ended.

In hindsight, KKZ should have won the match by an even bigger margin, but there were positives to be taken from the match as the team resembled a unit that is well-settled and ready to mount a serious challenge for the title. As it stands, after just 4 games played, the team has collected a maximum of 12 points, leading its closest competitor by 3 points, has scored the highest number of goals so far, (16), and conceded the least, (6), to have the best goal difference at this point, (+10).

This is a season that is beginning to promise much. Will it end as a glorious season, or will Kamikaze be led down by their trademark curse of complacency. Watch this space...

Kamikaze go Top of the Table

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Andernese FC vs Kamikaze FC

6/10/2013
11am Kickoff
First Toa Payoh Secondary

Kamikaze came into this game on the back of two consecutive wins. However, they had a break the previous week and that seemed to have halted the team's momentum as they made a meal out of what should have been a straightforward game.

Kamikaze seemed to have had assembled a strong line-up as they had several big names back from injury and official duties, and even the loss of Mohaan for the fixture did not seem to dampen their spirits. Despite having the likes of Vijay, Safar, Siva, Pratheep, Yeli and Hevy in their ranks, Kamikaze had a tough time breaking down the defence of Andernese FC.

The instructions for the team at the start was simple: Go out and get the goals. In the end, the team managed to hold out for the narrowest of 2-1 wins thanks to the team's resolute, determined defending.

Pratheep opened the scoring in the first half after some excellent build-up play from Kishen and Siva who layed up the ball perfectly for Pratheep to lash out for his second goal of the season. The team then went 2-0 up early in the second half, thanks to some excellent individual effort from Yeli who shimmied past two defenders and swerved the ball past the hapless keeper with a sweet left-footed shot. That should have been the cue for the team to go forth and chalk up the goals. But, a combination of poor finishing and nervy passing seemed to let Andernese back into the game and they gleefully accepted the chance.

A routine long punt which was visibly offside was let off by the referee and the Andernese striker pounced on to the chance to give his team a fighting chance. The comeback was nearly sealed as KKZ conceded a freekick which seemed to be dipping in towards the goal before Keeper Pratip got his fingertips to put it out for a corner. The team then defended collectively, with special mention going out to the defenders who requited themselves majestically after the previous game in which they were singled out for criticism.

In all honesty, it must be worrying for the Kamikaze Manager that when his attackers deliver, his defenders do not and when the defenders are imperious, the attack is feeble. But as Senior Player Victor mentioned,

"It must be even more worrying for our opponents, that we have won 3 straight games without kicking into 3rd gear. To be honest, we haven't really performed as a team to what we are capable of. But that is a by-product of us adjusting to the several changes in our match-day organisation. I have absolutely no doubt that this group of wonderful, committed and determined players will quickly gel as a team, and then I assure you, that we would be absolutely unplayable. Our next opponents, should be very wary of our backlash. A rout is around the corner."

Victor has a notorious habit of making the most inaccurate of predictions. Will his curse continue, or will his team rally round to start delivering what they are capable of? Watch this space!

Kamikaze came into this game suffering the usual pre-match jitters that is associated with the second game of the league. The team had done well in their opening encounter and were encouraged to do better in this game. They knew, however, that their opponents were formidable and that it was going to be a tough game.

Their worst fears came true, when just under 15 minutes, Keppel played a quick freekick and caught the Kamikaze defence napping, as a resulting scramble saw the Keppel striker react first as he unleashed an unstoppable effort.

If ever Kamikaze needed a response, it was today, and the team clad in their all-new blue strip was not about to back down without a fight. The fightback was led by Safar who  played a blinder of a game. When Mohaan weaved past the opponent's defence and took a shot that rebounded off the defender, it looked like yet another harmless attack. But Safar, had other ideas as he volleyed the rebound first-time, into the top left-hand corner to bring Kamikaze back into the game. And he repeated his effort 5 minutes later, as he took another first time shot following Barathi's cut-back that finally gave KKZ the lead they wanted, which was how it stayed at half-time.

The team was motivated to get a vital third goal after the break, and once again, Safar was the man who would get it. He played a brilliant one-two at the edge of the box with Mohaan, before rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into an empty net. When Hevy scored an outrageous goal 5 minutes later, in the most acute of angles, the game looked to be another comfortable victory for Kamikaze.

Yet, like always, the soccer gods had other ideas as Kamikaze's defence had probably one of their worst performances in recent memory. Shambolic defending, gave the keeper absolutely no protection, as they conceded 3 goals within the space of 15 minutes. Yet, as always, Safar had other ideas as he latched on to another through-ball from Mohaan before shooting convincgly past the keeper. The match ended at 5-4.

In reality, Kamikaze made a mess out of what should have been an easy game. Captain USPO did not mince his words, when he said in his post-match team talk,

"The defence led us down today. I can't remember when was the last time we conceded 4 goals, and this is not acceptable. But full credit to the way we attacked and scored each of the 5 goals. Moving forward, I have no doubt, that my defence will bounce back and show a much more improved performance. It was also good to have Anand (Spaceship) back. I believe he is trying to sort out his overseas obligations and come back for a prolonged stint with us. Having his experience is vital and I'm sure the added competition he provides will keep more of my defenders on their toes."

Kamikaze have gotten maximum points in their first two games, but what is really worrying for their opponents is the fact, that the team has not really gelled yet. It is a frightening thought to see how Kamikaze FC will be, when they are settled and primed up for a fight. But it is a mouth-watering dream for the KKZ faithful and one they hope to realise soon.

Kamikaze Begin A New Chapter in the Right Note

ESPZEN Sunday League Season 20 Division 6

Paix FC vs Kamikaze FC

15/9/2013
1pm Kickoff
Meridian JC

It was a wait that took 9 years in coming. And for a long while, the weather looked like it was going to prolong the realisation of a dream. But on a day like this, with a squad pumped up to deliver and a manager waiting to stamp his class, even the weather was not going to be a dampener.

Kamikaze kicked off their first ESPZEN league match at 1pm at Meridian JC. The pitch was declared playable by the referee, however puddles of water meant that KKZ could not look to play their famed passing game. Nevertheless, the team adapted well to the situation and began with a confidence that befits a team looking to take the league by storm.

The Manager lined up his squad with a tactic to attack and put the opponents on the backfoot and for large periods of the first half, his team played the role to a tee, albeit with a lack of luck in their finishing. That was to be rectified, however, when Safar shimmied past 2 defenders to layoff for Youth Sensation Shivaanan, who showed the crowd exactly why his manager trusts him, by delivering an unstoppable first-time shot into the top right-hand corner.

That goal, seemed to have eased the pressure slightly for the team, with the opponents creating no notable chance in the first half. Things changed in the second-half though, as the hardworking PAIX players sniffed opportunities to level the game. It was thanks to the water-tight defence, and the hardworking midfield who worked brilliantly as an unit that the score stayed to the advantage of KKZ. The game was still too close to call, but a moment of brilliance from Hevy changed it all. A lobbed chip from Safar seemed too close to the keeper but Hevy kept pressing on and his pressure paid off as he managed to nick the ball past the keeper and roll it into an empty net. At that moment, the game was over.

True enough, the pitch started clearing up and Kamikaze were able to exert better control and passing all over the park. Their dominance paid off as two, absolutely delightful goals from their wing wizards Pratheep and Barathi capped off an emphatic 4-0 win.

"Winning the first game always gives a good buzz around the dressing room. But it's important to take one step at a time. I'm not a person who looks too far ahead, and neither do I stay contented with the past. I always stay rooted to the present and focus on the task at hand, and I believe my team does the same too. There were very good goals scored today and I believe we can build on this form for the next game," said Manager Jayaseelan in his post-match interview.

Achieving this dream was a result of the collective efforts of an entire clan of brothers. Kamikaze has only realised part of the dream as of yet. When the season ends, they will look forward to carrying the pride of a successful season in ESPZEN Division 6.

Kamikaze announces the Signings of 4 Young Starlets

Kamikaze has completed the signings of the four targets they were pursuing. That brings the total number of new acquisitions to 5, including Mohaan, whom they had earlier signed on a 2-season deal. This is the biggest number of single season signings, since the founding of the club in 2004.

Kamikaze had signed, Reshi, Kishen, Sasi and Vijay from D-boys on a 2-season loan deal, that will see the boys play for D-boys on Saturdays and Kamikaze Seniors on Sundays. All 4 players are below 24, that has significantly reduced the average age of the squad and bodes well for the continuous renewal of the team. The 4 players had been actively courted by Manager Jayaseelan, who credited Aravin Yeli for the signings.

"We had close contact for some time already and I have to credit Yeli for making the signings seamless. These 4 young lads are amongst the most experienced in their age group and their experience will come in handy for the team. We also have several Juniors already promoted into the squad and this season will see a couple more from our Juniors step in. This is definitely a step in the right direction for the club," said Seelan

Profile of the 4 signings -

Kishen -

An industrious right-back, he looks to put in a strong challenge for the first choice right-back spot. A tenacious fullback in the mould of Ashley Cole, his speed and determination will make him a good replacement for Anand Spaceship who is still on Overseas Leave.

Sasi -

A former player of Kamikaze at the tender age of 14, Sasi was subsequently released to earn more experience within players of his age group. He has now returned, with vast knowledge and experience of the game and is a speedy winger as well as a clinical finisher. His roots with the team go a long way back as he is the cousin brother of former Captain Achu.

Vijay -

A very dependable keeper, Vijay can also play as centreback and centre midfield. Such versatility will be pleasant news for the gaffer as his rotating options will greatly increased. Vijay is admired for his excellent ball-handling skills as well as positional awareness. He will be a good deputy for current first-choice keeper Theva and will look to take his chances during Theva's absence.

Reshi -

His young age belies a wealth of experience. One of the most pivotal players of title-winning TG11, Reshi is a signing that has gotten the Kamikaze fans all excited. A nippy player, Reshi promises goals. He could be the missing piece in Kamikaze's attack that is looking to face new challenges.

Mohaan -

The marquee signing of the season. Mohaan needs no introduction. He comes with top level experience, including Espzen, Nfl and Prime League. This former SAFFC trainee has tremendously boosted the already famous Kamikaze midfield, that boasts Gerard, Doctor and Aravin Yeli. However, observers have pointed to Mohaan, giving this team a different dimension that could be very beneficial for the future development of the team.

As these signings are completed, the signs only point to one thing. There is a big announcement that is imminent with regards to Kamikaze's future plans. All eyes will be trained on Marsiling Sec this Sunday at 3pm, where Manager Seelan will hold his press conference after their friendly. It is believed that he will make a big announcement. Exciting times beckon for KKZ.

Flurry of Transfer Activities Hint to Big Announcement

A flurry of Transfer activities are taking place behind the scenes in the Kamikaze Seniors' camp. As news broke out that the Youths have finalised their squad in preparation for their league campaign beginning next week, all attention has been trained towards the Seniors' camp.

Observers have been watching with anticipation on Kamikaze's next move and as at the current moment, the likely destination looks to be either one of MOF or ESPZEN. However, things have looked to have gained momentum as news broke out that Mohaan has signed a 2-season deal that will see him don the Kamikaze colours on a permanent contract. Negotiations, for another backup keeper as well as a fullback and a striker are also in an advanced stage with deals looking to be sealed and announced within the next 48-hours.

All these point to an imminent announcement on Kamikaze's next plan of action. The management has thus far declined any comment, keeping their plans under close wraps, but an inside source says that the plans are almost finalised. "They have begun approaching First-Team regulars to talk about advanced payment for matches. They have also approached a number of players and assured them that they are very much in Kamikaze's plans. All these are signs, that something big is on the way. I wouldn't be surprised if the manager announces his plans at this Sunday's friendly match."

Kamikaze has always created excitement wherever they have gone and it is not a stretch to say that many enthusiastic watchers will be hovering around the Marsiling Sec pitch when KKZ plays their friendly this Sunday. A big story is about to break. Watch this space!!!

Kamikaze Sews Up Title

X-League Sunday Prime League Season 1 Division 2

Team Kamikaze vs Ginga FC @ Turf City

When the two teams met in the first game of the league the atmosphere was one of measurement as both teams started cautiously. However, the ease in which KKZ romped to a 13-1 win set the tone for their league campaign, and now as they met for the final game of the season, the stakes were higher. Ginga chasing their first points of the campaign, KKZ looking to win their 3rd league title on goal difference.

Kamikaze attacked from the word go, however, the nerves looked to get to them as the clock kept ticking with the Ginga keeper repelling several attacks. The strike force eventually calmed the nerves as a Victor brace and a superb Hevy effort saw the team go into the half-time break with a 3-1 win. As news streamed in, that La Forza had only managed a 3-0 victory meaning that Kamikaze had to just win the match to be crowned champions thanks to their superior goal difference, Kamikaze were truly zoned in.

They closed the match in a ruthless manner, that resembled the samurais mercilessly bludgeoning their opponents. Victor sewed up his second hat-trick of the tournament. Hevy went better by bagging 5 goals to end up as the tournament's top-scorer. Hara, Dinzo, Fazail, Yeli and even the keeper Theiva got into the scoresheet as Kamikaze exploited their demoralised opponents with sleek passing and non-stop attacking. 13-1 was how it ended in a carbon copy of their first match.

In truth, there was not much of the hype that greeted their earlier title victories. To put it in perspective, this was an easy league, that the KKZ team had made it difficult for themselves by losing the second tie to La Forza. However, that does not change the fact, that this group of boys who call themselves a band of brothers are now 3-time league winners. They have gone from the days of fighting for mid-table mediocrity to establishing a firm superiority amongst the amateur circle. Now the time is ripe for the team to challenge itself further. The gaffer Seelan got it spot-on when he said,

"We are finished the moment we say that we have won 3 titles and it's enough. It is never enough. We will spend 3 weeks celebrating the title win, but from then on it becomes a matter of the past and the present will be spent looking towards the future to ensure that this team never detracts from its goal. To be a Professionally-run Amateur Football Club. Such a goal has no end in sight, we just keep going on."

For these next 3 weeks though, the euphoria of what they have achieved will slowly start sinking in, 59 goals scored, 7 out of 8 games won. 21 point. 3rd League Title. Kamikaze!!!

Meanwhile, Enjoy!!!!!

Bad Temper Mars Excellent Win

X-League Sunday Prime League Season 1 Division 2

Team Kamikaze vs HomeWest United @ Turf City

The Seniors geared up for this match fully aware of the tricky nature of the tie. Homewest had given the team quite a run for their money in their earlier tie and no one was taking it lightly in the return fixture. There was a sense of quiet calm masking the feeling of apprehension due to the must-win nature of the tie.

However, the moment the first kick of the match went underway, KKZ put to bed all fears and their ruthlessness was duly rewarded. The forwards Hevy and Victor showed excellent workrate as they kept closing down their opposing defenders and the resulting pressure saw Kamikaze presented with excellent opportunities that they took with glee. Aravin Yeli showed calm composure after he was put through by a mishit backpass to chip the ball into the back of the net. Pratheep then showed he can go better by putting a brace past the keeper with a finishing that any top striker would be proud of. The team could have gone further ahead, except for some wonderful keeping by the HomeWest keeper and some lax finishing by the KKZ players.

If they needed a wake-up call however, they got one as a counterattack saw a harmless cross played into the box. Theva went down after a challenge from the Homewest forward and with the referee seeing nothing wrong, the Homewest number 7 gleefully tapped into an open net.

KKZ desperately wanted to avoid a repeat of the first leg, where they led HomeWest claw back into the game and Victor made sure that the team would head into the halftime break with a 3-goal cushion as he was in the right place at the right time to complete the excellent work by Manjan and Safar. 4-1 at halftime. The relaxed mood of the halftime belied the mess that was to occur in the second period.

Knowing that the game was effectively over when Victor scored his second goal of the game with a neat strike from just inside the box, the team started chasing for goals. Passes went awry and positionals awareness was discarded as the team played with a complete lack of discipline not seen for very long. To make matter worse, Victor, a veteran who should have known better, got into a squabble with the opponent centreback that saw both men get red-cards. It marked the end of an  evenign for the KKZ forward who earlier got into an argument with his manager also. Kamikaze however did manage to score two more through Hevy and conceded a penalty to bring the eventual scoreline to 7-2.

Haravin, who was the captain of the day did not mince his words as he admonished Victor, " He is one of the oldest players in the team and should have known better to control his actions taking into the context of the league situation. His argument with the gaffer was unacceptable as well. But Victor has served us long and the emotional outbursts are just another part of his game that he has to improve. As a team, I thought we played well today. 7-2 is an excellent win, and we added another +5 to the goal difference, so that's good. The negatives will be worked on as a team and we will finish off this league in a high."

Team Manager Seelan, however emphasised more on the positives. "Well, I thought it was an ok game. We were magnificent in the first half. Faizal was unplayable, Safar and Pratheep made excellent contributions. It was good to see Nesh back in top form and that lad brings us valuable experience at the back. Shivaanan will most definitely be offered a full contract with the Seniors and so it was a good game. But we have to retain focus and make sure the ugly side of our game does not rear its ugly head every now and then."

Kamikaze now head to the final league game with a hefty 15 goal cushion over La Forza who will be playing HomeWest. Unless Ginga throws a massive surprise on Kamikaze, the title is coming to the boys who never say die.

Seniors Bounce Back from Their Defeat in Ruthless Manner

X-League Sunday Prime League Season 1 Division 2

Team Kamikaze vs Budget FC @ Turf City

Kamikaze bounced back from their defeat to La Forza the previous week in a ruthless and efficient manner as they scored 9 goals to repeat their 9-0 victory over their same opponents. Without a first-choice keeper, the run-up to the match looked a little shaky with Victor starting in goal, but the Seniors made light work of the job ahead of them.

The loss to La Forza means that the title race will most likely go down to goal difference, and the Seniors looked to bulk up their goals' tally as they went 4-0 ahead in the first half. The scoring was started by Aravin Yeli, through a sleek passing move. Dinzo then scored the second through a stunning curler after excellent work through Barathi. Shivanan got in on the act as he scored his first ever goal for the seniors on his debut league match. Not wanting to be left out, Hevy got in on the act by blasting the ball to the roof of the net to give KKZ a commanding lead at the break.

Whilst lesser teams might have taken their foot off the pedal in the second half, KKZ only had one aim and that was to score. Yeli got his second as did Hevy. Victor who came on to play forward soon had a chance to put his name on the scoresheet courtesy of a penalty won by Gerard, and he made no mistake from the spot to break his mini goal-scoring drought. Victor then doubled his tally through a tap-in after excellent work by Yeli. The icing on the cake was provided by Hevy who wrapped up his hat-trick in style and made sure that the Seniors had a commanding 10 goal lead in the goal difference tally against their opponents.

Team Manager Seelan, who was in high spirits understandably quipped, "I'm gonna have to work on the boys to learn to take their chances. 9-0 again? We should have gotten double-digits. But in all honesty, credit to our opponents. They never gave up and were fantastic sports. Teams like them are good for the sport, but today my boys were single-minded on their aim. And when this team gets into that kind of a zone, they are almost unplayable as they showed today."

Squad: Victor, USPO, Ashraf, Dinzo, Barathi, Gerard, Prem, Shivanan, Aravin Yeli, Pratheep Muse, Haresh, Hevy, Dinesh Manjan

Goals: Aravin Yeli (2), Dinzo, Shivanan, Hevy (3), Victor (2)

Youths Succumb To Second Consecutive Defeat

25th May 2013

Kamikaze Youths Friendly @ Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary

The Youths faced off against a very familiar team as part of their training preparation Friendly programme. Their opponents for the day were Dboys and it must have been easy for nerves to creep into the minds of the young lad. However, the Youths proved that they were more than up to the task, as they took the game to their opponents and only had poor finishing to blame for their 1-0 defeat.

Right from the onset, the Youths looked to apply  the sleek passing play and inventive movement that their manager has been demanding of them and it looked to pay dividends as they came close on several occasions to take the lead. Nonetheless, it was Dboys who took the lead from a well-worked short corner that caught the keeper by surprise.

Although, the boys went down 1-0, there were several positives for the Youths, as two new players, Hameed and Saai Vinod, who were on trial at the club showed enough potential to convince the management to prepare a deal to tie them up on a long-term deal at the club. The St Gabriel's Secondary talents were unplayable on the pitch and Saai Vinod was unlucky to get a goal as the post denied him a perfect birthday gift.

The Youths also welcomed the return of Praveen, the younger brother of Kamikaze Pioneer Shanmugam, who was back to begin his second stint with the team. The young lad, who left in early 2012 to concentrate on his studies is now back to force his way within the team, and he showed several glimpses of his huge potential.

Team Manager Victor in his post-talk noted, "I know eyebrows are being raised in several camps regarding our recruitment policy. But bringing in bright new talents has always been core of our self-renewal policy. Several senior stalwarts, have all been brought in through our transfer policy. The management is constantly on the lookout for bright young talents, and if we spot a player who fits in with our footballing philosophy, we will go all out to bring him into the fold."

Exciting times beckon ahead for Kamikaze, so get ready for another chapter in the annals of this journey.

Veterans Show their Class

19th May 2013
Kamikaze Veterans Friendly @ Yusof Ishak Secondary

Kamikaze Veterans sauntered for another weekend rendezvous at Yusof Ishak Secondary to take on their opponents for a 5pm kickoff. With several members of the squad, rushing down from another match, the match had the feel of the good ol'days where pre-match briefings just consisted of wearing your boots and heading for the pitch. Team Manager Haresh, however, did have enough time to give his inputs on the style of play expected and shocked the squad with his selection, playing unfamiliar backfour, with Victor partnering Siva in the centre and Haresh and Barathi out on the wings.

The move turned out to be an excellent gamble, as the veterans were given further attacking width with the fullbacks constantly overlapping and Prem in midfield was able to dictate the play. Sivabalan and Victor formed a fantastic defensive pairing as the former launched several of his trademark tackles, whilst the latter led the team forward with composed passing. Shan Annae, a debutant for the Veterans ensured composure in goal. The first goal came in style, as a free-flowing move starting from the defence culminated in a beauty of a shot from Haresh that curled into the top corner of the far post.

Although the opponents did manage to equalise through a defensive mix-up, it was the Veterans who would take the lead into half-time courtesy of a neat Vinnie goal, where he left a defender for dead before unleashing a thunderous shot that the keeper could not hold on to.

The second-half however saw the Veterans hand over the advantage to their opponents, courtesy of two set-piece goals and looked to be heading towards a 3-2 defeat. But up stepped, Ghaz who once again proved his critics wrong, with an unstoppable shot from outside the box, that gave the keeper no chance as it went into the top corner.

A draw was probably a fair result, but the Veterans left home in happy spirits, having completed yet another game with the fun and camaraderie that this team was created to instill.

Kamikaze Youths Begin Rebuilding

18th May 2013

Kamikaze Youths Friendly @ Siglap Secondary

As part of its rebuilding programme, the Youths gave debuts to new signings, Veera and Gabriel. In what is looking to be part of a Kamikaze-wide reshuffle, a number of the Youth team players are poised to be shifted up to the Seniors, hence the Youth team managers are looking to bring new players to supplement the squad.

Veera and Gabriel justified their inclusion, with Gabriel scoring on his debut after some excellent work from Vishnu. Veera was fearless in his tackles and has good potential, that prompted Victor to say,

"The lad is definitely tenacious. However, he has to be prepared to put in the hardwork that is expected from a Kamikaze player. He has to put on some mass as well, to be equipped to make the challenges all over the park. With the right attitude, he will go far."

However, the positives did not help Kamikaze cover up the negatives. There is a very strong mentality of playing the killer hollywood pass that has plagued the team, and the managers said in the pre-match programme, that the next step for the Youths would be to cultivate a possession-holding style of play. However, the instructions clearly fell onto deaf ears, as several players, throughout the match, still attempted to play the impossible ball leading to a loss of possession that resulted in their opponents counter-attacking them. The 3-2 defeat was painful not just due to the scoreline, but rather the team's resistance to change.

Nonetheless, the managers are hopeful that the changes will come eventually and are looking to once again revitalise the team to achieve their potential.

Kamikaze Momentum Finally Halted

X-League Sunday Prime League Season 1 Division 2
Team Kamikaze vs La Forza @ Turf City

The momentum looked unstoppable as Kamikaze Seniors had chalked up 28 goals in just 4 games and were looking to virtually sew up the title with a win over their closest challengers La Forza. However, La Forza had plans of their own as they counter-attacked from the first whistle and made Kamikaze pay for its relentless attacks with 3 excellent counter-attacking goals in the firsthalf to get an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Kamikaze fought back valiantly, but even 2 late goals from Pratheep and Safar could not stop the team losing their first match of the season. The momentum now has swung back to La Forza who lead the table by 6 points, albeit having played 2 matches more.

Kamikaze, who a week ago looked like they were running away with the title, are now under tremendous pressure to win their remaining 3 games and hope that they can chalk up goals along the way to improve their Goal Difference tally.

This team has made it second nature to make things difficult for themselves, and now the time has come for Kamikaze to prove what they are made of.

Kamikaze gets into the mood

X-League Sunday Prime League Season 1 Division 2

Budget XFC vs Team Kamikaze @ St Gabriel's Secondary

It was a cold, dark, gloomy morning and the mood was no different as Kamikaze missed several first-teamers and faced the prospect of rain washing out the match. But there is a silver lining in every dark cloud and the return of several stars helped brighten up the day for the KKZ faithful.

Safar, Fazail, Hevy and Neshsta had yet to start a game together this season, but the absence of Haravin, Uspon, Yeli and Siva gave them an opportunity to shine. And shine with pomp they did, as Kamikaze romped to a 9-0 victory, keeping their first clean sheet of the season.

Rain threatened to wash out this game with the referee eager to call off the game. But as soon as the organiser gave the green light for the game to proceed, the mood changed in an instant. Excellent team movement and clinical finishing saw Kamikaze race through to 3-0 within the first 15 minutes with Hevy notching a brace and Haresh notching his first goal of the season. It then became a showcase of shooting as Anand Spaceship and Safar hit thunderous half-volleys in between a Hevy penalty which allowed him to notch his first hat-trick of the season. 6-0 at half-time.

For a team with such attacking prowess, emphasis on defence might be underrated. But the converse was true at the half-time team-talk, with the importance of grabbing a cleansheet being noted as the utmost priority. However, as Acting Player-Manager of the day Prem noted, the only we are going to come out with the clean sheet yet look classy is to maintain possession, recycle play and pass with pomp.

Despite the many misgivings, the players listened to the intructions with the discipline and respect expected of a Kamikaze player and it paid off as they grabbed a further 3 goals courtesy of Safar, Doctor and Ashraf.

Ashraf who grabbed his first league goal for the Seniors could not hide his excitement,

"This is my first ever goal for the Seniors and better since it is a league goal, it is very memorable. My confidence has definitely been boosted. But to be honest, defending for Kamikaze is a pleasure. The midfield provides us with so much of cover and support. I thought that we played extremely well as a team yesterday and the clean sheet is a testament to all of our hard work following the rally call from USPO last week."

Kamikaze now lead the table by 3 points with a better goal difference. It would take extreme discipline not to think of the title, but this is Kamikaze and as always the team is only focused on the next game.
