KAMIKAZE FC vs Y Homeless

It was an important game against an opponent who have troubled KKZ far too often in recent times, but the fight put up the KKZ warriors were definitely praise-worthy. Right from the start it was a cagey encounter, but when KKZ spurned 4 glorious chances to go ahead within the opening 30 minutes, it seemed like a matter of time before they would be punished. When they conceded however, it came out of the bolt, as a harmless corner-kick evaded everyone and found the Y Homeless striker opened as he toe-poked the ball into the goal to send his team up by 1 at half-time.
The second-half saw KKZ throw everything they had against their opponents and continue to create good chances, but without the luck to finish off. When Y Homeless, were awarded a dubious penalty, it seemed like the match was over, but Vishnu had other ideas. He correctly guessed and sprang to his left-hand side to keep out the ball, which was destined to head to the top corner, and his efforts spurred the team on,
Oswind and Jeffrey led the charge with Barathi and Sasi continuing their raids down the flanks and one exceptional move saw Oswind thread the ball through to Sasi who made no mistake with his finish. That signalled the Kamikaze siege on the opponents' penalty box and when Hevy scored from an acute angle, it looked like their title ambitions were back on track.
But in the least unexpected manner, a long punt from Y Homeless saw the ball sneak between the KKZ centrebacks and the forward once again toe-poked it past an oncoming Vishnu to earn a point and end KKZ's title charge.
While it might not have been how they envisioned their season to end, there is still plenty to fight for as the second place is up for grabs and a final showdown with Champions TGXI is still left on the cards. While this season, might not have gone the way the team would have liked it to be, a second place finish is definitely respectable and Kamikaze will look to finish the team strongly.
Manager Seelan was forthright in his assessment,
"We have scored twice as many goals as the Champions, but they have conceded half as many as us. And that's exactly where the problem lies. We will look to start improving our defending as a team, if we want to do better next season."

Kamikaze Returns to Winning Ways

Mak Hitam 95 vs KAMIKAZE FC

Mak Hitam had the second longest undefeated streak second only to the famed Happy Feet FC but they had faced their first defeat in a very long time and the Samurais were smelling blood as they knew this would be a good time to catch their opponents vulnerable. Nonetheless KKZ was coming off two back-to-back draws themselves and it set up for a cagey game.
The manager for the day Seelan, played a masterstroke as he put Jefri up leading the attack and the gamble paid off with the physical presence of Jefri causing all sorts of problems for Mak Hitam's defence. Vijay almost scored the fastest goal in KKZ history as his header inside 30 seconds narrowly went past the post, but he was not to be denied at the 13th minute mark, when he rounded off an excellent move involving Jefri and Safar and gave the Samurais a deserved lead.
KKZ soon launched wave after wave of attack, but were in an increasingly wasteful mood as they failed to convert several good chances including a penalty miss. The failure to convert soon bit them back as Mak Hitam, made the pressure count after a quick counterattack that saw their left-winger beat his marker in a rare moment and made it count by chipping over the keeper.
Just when a third consecutive draw looked to be on the cards, up stepped Viki whose set-piece abilities formed part of the reasons on the team breaking boundaries to sign him. When KKZ were awarded a free-kick 40 yards out, Viki immediately stepped up and waved away all other interested parties, such was his confidence. He soon showed that the confidence wasn't misplaced, as he unleashed a curling effort that gave the keeper no chance and ended up at the back of the net.
For the remaining 15 minutes, KKZ had to defend deep to ensure that they gain the vital points and though the eventual win was rather ugly, it was a vital win that saw the team go up to third place, trailing leaders by just 2 points with 3 games in hand. The defence restored confidence after the disappointing performance in the previous game and as history has shown us, attack will win a team games but defence will help to win the league.

Kamikaze Jrs enjoyed a comprehensive victory on Saturday. The team started with a positive mindset and wanted to win the match in style, which they did.
The first half was all Kamikaze as they kept asking questions of the opponents' defence. However, with the opponents running tirelessly and their keeper being in scintillating form, the game was kept 0-0 at half-time.
It looked like it needed something magical to break the deadlock, and when the goal came, it did come in some incredible fashion. Vishnu proved his capability by scoring an Ibrahimovic-style half-volley from 30-yards out which looped over the helpless keeper, who till that point was having a blinder of a game. Once the goal went in, the floodgates opened.
Second goal came via a setpiece with Vinnie turning provider. From a outswinging corner, Vinnie headed the ball back into the 6-yard box for Hasiim to head it in to the back of the net. Just when it was starting to look like a comfortable match, a defensive mix-up saw the opponents pulling one back with the striker through on an open goal.
The Juniors however showed good composure and continued their good passing movements which paid dividends as they went on to score one more. After an excellent team play, Victor squared the ball back for Hasiim who calmly sidefooted it into the goal.
The opponents, however, refused to give up and another mix up, this time between Saai and the Keeper Pratip, saw the striker easily gaining possession and looping the ball into an empty net.
Just when it looked like a melt-down was on the cards, Jo, who had an awesome shift, combined with another new player Visnu V2, who had an absolutely outstanding afternoon. Their 1-2 passing movement saw Jo being put through with an exquisite ball by Visnu V2, and he made no mistake with a clinical finish.
The final score ended 4-2 and there were many positives to be taken by the team. Visnu V2 showed great potential, while Joseph, Arjun and Hasiim showed their class in midfield. With Vinnie, Prabhu and Vishnu showing good predatory instincts, the team is looking to be in fine form. However, they have to sort out their occasional defensive slip-ups to look as genuine title contenders.
In the Press Conference, the Team Managers Victor and Neshsta announced, that the team would be joining a new league soon, details of which would be revealed in the coming days.

With the team experimenting a new formation, Kamikaze overwhelmed their opponents with a resounding 5-0 victory. But once again it was a tale of two halves as all 5 goals came in the first period of play.
Boasting a squad of 16 players, the team had enough depth and wanted to prove a point after some lacklustre displays in the previous weeks.
From the start of the match, the Youths, displayed slick passing in all areas of the pitch. Having made a conscious decision to cut out the long balls, there was good passing and off the ball movement. With Shivaanan and Hasiim dominating the the midfield, the first goal came after a run of good passing. Nick sprinted down the left flank before getting the better of two defenders and squared the ball back to the returning Prabhu who finished it with calm and ease. Not long later, Hasiim took a rocket of a shot which hit the inside of the crossbar on the way to the net. The third goal also followed in a similar fashion of the first one with slick passing. Jo was the provider this time as he played a through-ball with which Vishnu made no mistake.
Vinnie, scored arguably the goal of the match as he capped off a fine Kamikaze move that saw 11 uninterrupted passes made before Vinnie scored with a neat finish. Vinnie then returned the favour for Haji, with a cheeky backheel to Haji who caught the keeper offguard and swung in a lobbed shot.
Despite the excitement of the first half, the second half was a dour affair. Though the team did well to ensure that no goals were conceded, there wasn't much attacking penetration. However, after the dismal result in the previous game, the team would gladly take the 5-0 result.
In his post-match conference, the gaffer laid down the gauntlet to his charges,
"Is it possible to continue this run for the next 4 matches? Can we ensure that we continue the good things of this match and eliminate the bad ones? Can we make the right decisions for every match?"

Youths Succumb To Second Consecutive Defeat

Kamikaze Youths Friendly @ Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary
The Youths faced off against a very familiar team as part of their training preparation Friendly programme. Their opponents for the day were Dboys and it must have been easy for nerves to creep into the minds of the young lad. However, the Youths proved that they were more than up to the task, as they took the game to their opponents and only had poor finishing to blame for their 1-0 defeat.
Right from the onset, the Youths looked to apply the sleek passing play and inventive movement that their manager has been demanding of them and it looked to pay dividends as they came close on several occasions to take the lead. Nonetheless, it was Dboys who took the lead from a well-worked short corner that caught the keeper by surprise.
Although, the boys went down 1-0, there were several positives for the Youths, as two new players, Hameed and Saai Vinod, who were on trial at the club showed enough potential to convince the management to prepare a deal to tie them up on a long-term deal at the club. The St Gabriel's Secondary talents were unplayable on the pitch and Saai Vinod was unlucky to get a goal as the post denied him a perfect birthday gift.
The Youths also welcomed the return of Praveen, the younger brother of Kamikaze Pioneer Shanmugam, who was back to begin his second stint with the team. The young lad, who left in early 2012 to concentrate on his studies is now back to force his way within the team, and he showed several glimpses of his huge potential.
Team Manager Victor in his post-talk noted, "I know eyebrows are being raised in several camps regarding our recruitment policy. But bringing in bright new talents has always been core of our self-renewal policy. Several senior stalwarts, have all been brought in through our transfer policy. The management is constantly on the lookout for bright young talents, and if we spot a player who fits in with our footballing philosophy, we will go all out to bring him into the fold."
Exciting times beckon ahead for Kamikaze, so get ready for another chapter in the annals of this journey.

Veterans Show their Class

Kamikaze Veterans Friendly @ Yusof Ishak Secondary
Kamikaze Veterans sauntered for another weekend rendezvous at Yusof Ishak Secondary to take on their opponents for a 5pm kickoff. With several members of the squad, rushing down from another match, the match had the feel of the good ol'days where pre-match briefings just consisted of wearing your boots and heading for the pitch. Team Manager Haresh, however, did have enough time to give his inputs on the style of play expected and shocked the squad with his selection, playing unfamiliar backfour, with Victor partnering Siva in the centre and Haresh and Barathi out on the wings.
The move turned out to be an excellent gamble, as the veterans were given further attacking width with the fullbacks constantly overlapping and Prem in midfield was able to dictate the play. Sivabalan and Victor formed a fantastic defensive pairing as the former launched several of his trademark tackles, whilst the latter led the team forward with composed passing. Shan Annae, a debutant for the Veterans ensured composure in goal. The first goal came in style, as a free-flowing move starting from the defence culminated in a beauty of a shot from Haresh that curled into the top corner of the far post.
Although the opponents did manage to equalise through a defensive mix-up, it was the Veterans who would take the lead into half-time courtesy of a neat Vinnie goal, where he left a defender for dead before unleashing a thunderous shot that the keeper could not hold on to.
The second-half however saw the Veterans hand over the advantage to their opponents, courtesy of two set-piece goals and looked to be heading towards a 3-2 defeat. But up stepped, Ghaz who once again proved his critics wrong, with an unstoppable shot from outside the box, that gave the keeper no chance as it went into the top corner.
A draw was probably a fair result, but the Veterans left home in happy spirits, having completed yet another game with the fun and camaraderie that this team was created to instill.

Kamikaze Youths Begin Rebuilding

Kamikaze Youths Friendly @ Siglap Secondary
As part of its rebuilding programme, the Youths gave debuts to new signings, Veera and Gabriel. In what is looking to be part of a Kamikaze-wide reshuffle, a number of the Youth team players are poised to be shifted up to the Seniors, hence the Youth team managers are looking to bring new players to supplement the squad.
Veera and Gabriel justified their inclusion, with Gabriel scoring on his debut after some excellent work from Vishnu. Veera was fearless in his tackles and has good potential, that prompted Victor to say,
"The lad is definitely tenacious. However, he has to be prepared to put in the hardwork that is expected from a Kamikaze player. He has to put on some mass as well, to be equipped to make the challenges all over the park. With the right attitude, he will go far."
However, the positives did not help Kamikaze cover up the negatives. There is a very strong mentality of playing the killer hollywood pass that has plagued the team, and the managers said in the pre-match programme, that the next step for the Youths would be to cultivate a possession-holding style of play. However, the instructions clearly fell onto deaf ears, as several players, throughout the match, still attempted to play the impossible ball leading to a loss of possession that resulted in their opponents counter-attacking them. The 3-2 defeat was painful not just due to the scoreline, but rather the team's resistance to change.
Nonetheless, the managers are hopeful that the changes will come eventually and are looking to once again revitalise the team to achieve their potential.

The Kamikaze Youths played a friendly at Bartley Secondary to kickoff their post-season campaign. The game was a good runout for the players and the team had the pleasure of welcoming back Apek from his long-term injury. In the end it was a comfortable scoreline for the Youths as they ended up winning 5-1. New signing Sasi, had a dream debut as he scored a brace, with Arjun, Vinnie and Shivanan all getting onto the scoreline.

Veterans Slump to their first defeat

Kamikaze Veterans vs Unknowns
The Veterans had been going into this match high on confidence carrying a proud unbeaten record since their resurrection. They left the game with their heads held even higher as they knew they had put in a performance that rolled back the years.
One had to go back several years to remember a Kamikaze match that was comprised of Sivabalan, Arafath, Shanmugam, Haresh, Jraj and Seelan all in the same team. Nostalgia ruled the day but the Veterans team put the criticism, that they were not fielding a true Veterans side, to bed by fielding a side that tugged at the heartstrings of Kamikaze faithful.
However, it was not to be a fairytale start as the Goalkeeping woes continued and Jraj's inexperience saw him concede two very early goals. That setback seemed to only spur the team ahead as they made a storming comeback to equalise through Arafath and Vinnie.
The highlight of the day definitely had to be the penalty incident that earned Kamikaze their 3rd goal. In what was already a controversial moment, Haresh had seemingly simulated a foul that convinced the referee to award the penalty. But the drama was happening outside the pitch, as Seelan who had just substituted in to replace Shanmugam, immediately substituted out to allow Shanmugam to take the penalty. Shanmugam showed extraordinary composure to drill the penalty straight down the centre before substituting himself out for Seelan. Once again, the fans were delighted at the rolling back of good old days, Veterans style, as opposed to the very rigid and structured organisation that the current KKZ teams show.
Although Spaceship popped in to score a superb individual goal, he could not prevent the team from going down 5-4. Nevertheless, the spirits were high, and Jayaseelan had this to say,
"After so long you had a team where the pioneers played. Not only did you have Arafath, Shan and Vinnie on the same pitch, you had them all on the scoresheet well. And the best thing about this team is that win, lose or draw, we celebrate the same!"
Haresh was quick to add,
"But some things never change and we sure are gonna give Jraj a thrash or two for his wonderful keeping. But kudos to him and the boys for their effort and spirit."
In a week that saw KKZ make headlines for all the good reason, there could never have been a better form of publicity for the team's longevity and endurance than this friendly match.

Kamikaze Youths vs Senja United
As the league draws to a close Kamikaze Youths were given a rare off day in their league fixtures. However the team was in no mood to relax as they took on Senja United in a friendly match at Springfield Secondary.
The attacking intent of the Youths could not be more clearer as Victor scored what was the team's fastest ever goal in 4 seconds. He took a shot from just inside the halfway line after Vishnu laid the ball off from the kickoff. The keeper made a fumble out of what looked like a comfortable safe, but Victor celebrated it all the same.
That set the tone for KKZ to swarm their opponents' goalmouth but it had to take a well-executed freekick from Vishnu to double the lead. As Senja looked forward anxiously forward for the half-time whistle, there was still time for Victor to grab his second and the team's third.
The halftime talk was all about spreading the play around both flanks and being more clinical in front of goal. It sure paid dividends as, Kamikaze went 4-0 immediately through a wonderful solo-goal from Pratheep. Victor soon after wrapped up his hat-trick before Nick who was making his comeback match stole the show. The young superstar who has had a torrid time with his personal commitments once again showed why he was so valuable for the Youth set-up as he scored a brace and setup amidst setting up one for Vinnie. It was a convincing victory for the Youths as they also managed a clean sheet without having a natural keeper with Hari Atom and Dinzo stepping into the role magnificently.

Rain puts a Dampen on a Perfect Day For Kamikaze

Kamikaze Veterans vs Uncle's United
The Kamikaze Veterans team played yet another friendly with an encouraging turnout at Yusof Ishak secondary. While the game did not start according to plan, with the Veterans conceding an early goal, the mood in the camp was bouyant with everyone in high spirits to enjoy a day of recreational soccer. The high spirits led to an improvement in the play, as Jayaseelan scored a sensational goal, in a virtual carbon copy of Cristiano Ronaldo's finish for Real Madrid against United, after excellent work by newcomers Sangaran and Riyaz. Kamikaze started peppering the goal with more threats and their persistence paid off. Yasin showed exceptional touch, strength and vision as he held off two defenders to thread a through-ball to Vishnu who showed a cool composure to give the Veterans the lead.
However, just when things were going into momentum for the veterans, heavy showers accompanied with lightning and thunder put an end to the proceedings with the game being called off with the Veterans leading 2-1.
The spirit of camaraderie and enjoyment of football are the key pillars of this Veterans team and the boys sure enjoyed their day out even though it was cut short by Mother Nature.
