Kamikaze Back To Winning Ways

MOF SEASON 5 DIVISION 1
ROUND 13
Koja Boy's vs KAMIKAZE FC
11th Aug 2014
11 Am Bedok View Secondary

It was touted as an inconsequential league game. Both Kamikaze and their Opponents Koja Boy's were most definitely going on to Division 2 next season and KKZ had planned to use this match as an extended warm-up in preparation for next season. What happened during the match, had several narratives for the outlook of next season.

Koja started the game with only 8 men, while Kamikaze saw the veteran Victor come out from retirement to lead the attack, in a KKZ squad that looked bold enough to play a 3-5-2 formation. The move looked to be a dream, as KKZ put Koja to the sword by going 4-0 up in just 20 minutes, thanks to a brace from Victor and Pratheep. Although they conceded a goal to an unstoppable free-kick, control was once again established, thanks to another brace, this time from, Pira and 1 goal apiece from Nelson and Eng. Even when Koja scored another goal, this time from an even better free-kick, the game looked sewed up.

This prompted Kamikaze to take a bold step in offering Koja Boy's three of their players for the second half. Although, they were down by 3 men and six goals, Koja Boy's played with good spirit, zest and energy and it seemed like the right thing to do and in the interest of an exciting game, with the result sewed up, KKZ sent over Safar, Prem and Victor to bolster their opponents.

Within 10 minutes, they were sorely ruing their decision as Safar reminded everybody, that he is still the magician he has been for the past 5 years. In a bizarre twist of fate, the sturdy Kamikaze defence was put to the sword by one of their own, as Safar ran riots around them and scored a hat-trick within 6 minutes of the restart. Prem got in on the act by outjumping the entire KKZ defence to bring the deficit down to only 2 goals and with the KKZ team in disarray, acting player-manager switched back to join the KKZ team.

And that was when disaster stuck, as Victor made a seemingly innocuous run, only to hit the ground after badly twisting his knee while making a turn. The veteran was immediately stretchered out, facing possibly the end of his career once again, but the team had a far more important task: to sew up a seemingly straight-forward game that had now turn into a mine-trap.

They needed someone to step in to restore some order. New-signing Nelson, is not your typical attacking player. The pudgy forward, is not blessed with tremendous pace or deft silky movements, but there was something about this man that convinced the management to sign him up. And that is the man's tenacity and the knack of always being in the right place at the right-time. He put the result beyond doubt with a brace in the second half to bring up his first-ever hat-trick for Kamikaze.

However, despite the goal gluts, there were plenty of unsung heros for Kamikaze yesterday. The keeper Vishnu, another new-signing, was not at fault for any of the goals and even saved a penalty. Marshalled by the impressive Neshsta, the defence held firm and steady. Captain Haravin, once again showed his energy and versatility as he put in a tireless shift in the wingback role, while Gerard and Viki dominated the midfield and were imperious in the first half. But the man-of-the match, was easily the man who did not score, but had a hand in most of the goals, Vijay. It is not difficult to see why this man, is touted as the spearhead of the attack. His intelligence and runs, created mayhem in the opponents' defence and his unselfishness always brings the best out of his teammates. Vijay will be crucial cog in the heart of Kamikaze's attack.

Kamikaze Starts Cup Campaign with an Impressive Performance

MOF SEASON 5 CUP
ROUND of 16
FC Genesis vs KAMIKAZE FC
6th Jul 2014
11 am Yio Chu Kang Secondary

It was a welcome result for Kamikaze as they turned on the style despite tough times surrounding the club. As news broke out the Vice-Captain Prem’s brother was missing in Cambodia, there was an air of gloom around the mood of the club. But by the time the boys left the pitch, the mood had been lifted and as news filtered in later on in the night that Sanjay had been found, it capped a remarkable day for the KKZ faithful.

However, the story didn’t follow the script as Kamikaze went down a goal within 10 minutes despite dominating possession against the run of play. Just when it looked like it was going to be the same old sad story, Viki rolled back the years with a turn and volley inside the penalty box. Siva then ensured the recovery with a trademark striker’s goal as he pounced onto a delightful cross by Haji who linked up well with Mohaan.

The game was sealed by an act of class by Gerard who put in a tremendous cameo performance in the last 20 minutes. He coolly stroked the ball around, sold the defender a dummy which completely left him stumped and finally capped off the day with a magnificent Pirlo-like freekick.

It was a satisfying day indeed.

Kamikaze Leave with Their Heads High despite an unlucky defeat against the Champions

MOF SEASON 5 DIVISION 1
ROUND 10
KAMIKAZE vs HAPPY FEET FC
8th June 2014
1 pm Marsiling Secondary

Games like these are why Kamikaze decided to make the jump to MOF. This was an exciting game right from the start. Despite the vast differences in the points table, Happy Feet were not taking the game lightly and came well prepared to put KKZ to the sword, yet for once the Samurais came not to play second fiddle but to show that they too belong.

Both teams started with zest and energy, though it was Happy Feet who maintained the lion’s share of the possession and they soon made the pressure count as two defensive slip-ups saw Kamikaze go down 2-0 in quick succession.

However, Kamikaze soon regained their footing and took the game right to Happy Feet and in an unexpected turn of events, the game was level at half-time as Vijay struck twice, the first after a delightful assist from Gerard resulting in a slip-up by the keeper and the second after a through-ball from Oswind.

Nevertheless Happy Feet showed their depth in quality as they made a host of changes bringing in former Singapore U-16 striker Hanafi, who soon made the difference as a change in pace saw him beat the KKZ defence and launch a wicked shot that gave the keeper no chance. It was soon 4-2 and Happy Feet once again expected to walk all over the park. But Kamikaze were having none of that, as they mounted a valiant fightback and took the attack to Happy Feet once again as they created numerous chances. When Safar delightfully chipped over the keeper into the goal, finishing off an excellent move that saw Vijay win the ball on the flank, passing it to Doctor who lifted it over the defence, it looked like a huge upset was on the cards. That was not to be however, as Happy Feet showed the guile befitting champions as they ran down the clock with numerous players going down with cramps as luck was not to be on KKZ’s side yet again.

Acting Manager Victor said,
“I’ll be lying if I said that I was not proud of my team. That was a magnificent performance right there, yet, the fact is we still made quite a few schoolboy mistakes at crucial periods. At this level, such mistakes will surely be punished as we were today. But matches like this are what inspire my boys. We gave a good account of ourselves today, now we regroup for our next match.”

Lack of Squad depth hurts Kamikaze yet again

MOF SEASON 5 DIVISION 1
ROUND 9
KAMIKAZE vs YOUNGSTERVILLE FC
2nd June 2014
11 am Marsiling Secondary

This game epitomized the story of Kamikaze’s season. They started brightly, failed to take gilt-edged chances, got punished off a quick counter-attack, twice. Pulled the deficit down to 1, twice, but eventually got knocked out by sucker punches from a well-organised and well-drilled Youngsterville FC who truly took their chances well and condemned KKZ to yet another demoralizing defeat.

This season is now Kamikaze’s worst in the last 5 years and they are finding ways and means to salvage whatever that remains of the season. If at any time, they needed the famed resilience that they are known for, now would be an apt moment

Kamikaze Register their 3rd win of a tough season

MOF SEASON 5 DIVISION 1
ROUND 8
KAMIKAZE vs LE SEBEN FC
25 May 2014
1pm Pierce Secondary

Kamikaze needed to turn their season around and they had to do it starting from this game. Although the return of their Manager Seelan, seemed to boost the morale, with the team having 16 players for this game, there was still some worry as the team were facing several big-names. Nonetheless, there was excitement in the Kamikaze as there were some new faces, who by the end of the game had everyone sitting up and taking notice of their names.

The team came out to attack and it all went according to plan as they managed to grab an early goal courtesy of excellent play by the quartet of new-face Francis, resurgent Manjan, on-form Muse and the returning Siva who volleyed the ball home. Yet, the goal did not settle the team's nerves as they continued being susceptible to the long ball played behind their defence. Another new-face Puvin was colossal in the centre of the defence, but Le Seben's route one football and Kamikaze's inability to hold on to possession kept seeing KKZ being put on the backfoot. Against the run of play, thanks to the excellent link-up play between Vijay and Siva, KKZ raced into a 3 goal lead which should have opened the floodgates, as Vijay grabbed a brace.

However, KKZ refused to hear the warning signs and they were soon punished as the continued Le Seben presence in their half paid off dividends as Le Seben caught the keeper off-guard with two well-taken goals. Manager Seelan who was fuming at the half-time, rang some changes and bolstered the midfield. The gaffer who has a reputation for surprising people with his unorthodox methods, got the last laugh as the team closed off the second half with 2 more goals. Deen, another new-face missed a penalty early, but made amends for it with an exquisite finish from outside the box which went in off the post. Mohaan then showed everyone why he is so highly-rated as he dispossessed the opponent and lobbed the keeper with a shot that gave him no chance.

Despite the scoreline, it was worrying to see Kamikaze unable to hold on to possession. A bright spark however, was the form of the 4 new-faces, Pravin, Francis, Puvin and Deen who injected much energy and speed into the game. The return to form of the Vijay-Siva combination would also mean that the team's other forwards would have to work very hard to get into the starting XI as these two cemented their first-choice status with a clinical performance.

Seelan was forthright in his assessment,

"We came to win and it is not our business to analyse Le Seben's play. We won and now we move forward to the next game. We will come back stronger, that you can be assured of."
